Diets don't work
Are you doing all the “right” things, yet you’re still not able to lose weight? Here are some common weight loss mistakes.

 

 

You’re on a diet.
Diets don’t work. Statistics from the National Institutes of Health tell us that 98 percent of people who lose weight by “going on a diet” end up gaining it back within five years and 90 percent of those people gain back more weight than they lost. Diets can cause muscle loss, which lowers meta­bolic rate and makes weight loss harder. Plus, restrictive diets don’t help you make changes you can live with for very long, so you tend to give up or give in.

 

You’re not exercising effectively. 
The days of spending 30 minutes or more on the treadmill are gone. The same goes for doing the same exercises day in and day out. Studies show that less is more. Change up your routine by incorporating High Intensity Training and doing different strength training workouts weekly- preferably ones that are functional.

 

You eat mindlessly.
You sit in front of the TV while mindlessly eating a bag of chips, and by the time your show is over, the bag has disappeared. This mindless eating adds calories and excess pounds. Another trap includes that candy bowl you can’t ignore at the office, or that “taste” of food while you’re cooking.

 

You eat too much.
People who are overweight tend to under-estimate how many calories they are consuming. Overeating, even if it is just 100-200 calories a day, will lead to weight gain.

 

Your healthy eating isn’t so healthy.
The salad you thought was healthy is slathered in high calorie, high fat dressing, cheese and croutons. Make sure you are really making healthy choices by reading food labels and choosing wisely.

 

You don’t get enough sleep.
If you are sleep deprived, your metabolism slows down. And you tend to make poor food choices because your energy is low. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep and aim for improved sleep hygiene.

 

You’re stressed.
Stress can lead to emotional eating. Stress also causes the body to produce cortisol, which is related to excess belly fat. Learn relaxation techniques, to help you de-stress.

 

The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to change your lifestyle and food choices!
