Simply turning on the daily news is stressful. Add on the stresses of daily life — like the demands at work or dealing with family issues — and the stress piles on.

So how do you manage your stress levels when it seems like there is no end in sight?

One way is to find good coping mechanisms to help you stay healthy and centered, regardless of what life throws your way.

Here are four tips to deal with every day stressors:

Take care of yourself. Eat healthy. Pursue activities that bring you joy, like gardening, walking the dog, or meeting your bestie for lunch.

Move your body. Physical activity affects the nervous system in ways that reduce stress. Just 30 minutes per day of brisk walking can help boost your mood.

Prioritize. Tackle those things that are within your control. If you’re workplace is stressful, you can’t change the fact that your boss is unreasonable, but you can change how you respond. If it’s that your child is misbehaving, work with your partner to come up with a plan of action.

Use calming techniques. Learning techniques to help you manage your stress can improve your mood and reduce your health risks. Mind-body techniques include yoga, tai-chi and reiki.

By practicing a few simple techniques to counter stress, you can achieve inner calm.
