During the holidays, it can be easy to get caught up with the pressure of gift shopping, obligatory get-togethers in your already full schedule, and over-indulging with high calorie foods and drinks.

Incorporating mindfulness and Reiki can play a big part in bringing you back into balance.

If you’re not familiar with mindfulness, it is the process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment. Benefits include stress reduction, a feeling of connectedness, and an increased immune function. Interestingly enough, these are the same benefits that Reiki provides!

Here are a three tips to practice during the holidays to help you decrease your stress and achieve more balance and calm:

Try to avoid multi-tasking as much as possible – do one thing at a time or share some of your responsibilities with others.  Is there a task that you like doing least? Personally, wrapping gifts is not my strong suite. Instead of getting frustrated, I delegate that task to my husband. When we all support each other, it can make things less overwhelming.

Have realistic expectations and set healthy boundaries. You can’t make everyone happy, and you certainly can’t make anyone happy if you are operating from a place of resentment or obligation. Say yes to the things that you know will light you up and make sure to recharge, relax and take care of yourself!

Focus on enjoying exactly where you’re at.  Once you do that,  you’ll be able to enjoy the holiday season with feelings of gratitude and awareness.

It is easy to be swept away by some overwhelming feeling, so it’s helpful to remember that any stressful feeling is like a compassionate alarm clock that says, “You’re caught in the dream.” Depression, pain, and fear are gifts that say, “Sweetheart, take a look at your thinking right now. You’re living in a story that isn’t true for you.”
