Nowadays, simply tuning in to the daily news is likely to be stressful.

Add on the stresses of daily life – such as adjusting to working at home or dealing with family issues – and you may begin to greet each day with apprehension and worry.

Some degree of stress is normal, but chronic stress is not. If you have strategies in place, you can manage to stay healthy during turbulent times.

If you are in need of some relief, you can learn how to manage your stress with these five simple tips.

Take care of yourself. Do something you enjoy, whether it’s taking a bath or reading a book. Becoming immersed in pleasurable activities will help you manage your stress.

Eat healthy. Get in your kitchen and start cooking! Get creative with foods like frozen vegetables, canned fish and dried beans.

Get regular exercise. Engaging in physical activity affects your nervous system in ways that reduce stress. Just 30 minutes a day can help boost your mood, so grab your sneakers and take a walk! Can’t get outdoors? No worries, there’s always YouTube!

Write it down. Many people find that getting their thoughts on a piece of paper helps them see them differently and can provide some relief. This is a perfect exercise before bed if you find yourself lost in your thoughts and it is affecting your sleep.

Use calming techniques. Learning techniques to combat stress can improve your mood and reduce your health risks.  Breathing techniques (pranayama, diaphragmatic breathing, etc.), yoga and tai chi can help you reduce stress and achieve more balance in your life.
