Often people will ask me to create a meal plan for them. Essentially they’re asking me to put them on a diet.

Here’s why I don’t do that.

Diets don’t work.  And it would be impossible to create a plan that would work for everybody.

There are just too many variables, including:

Dietary preferences: Each of us have different food preferences, and some of us may have foods that we need to avoid due to allergies/sensitivities.

Budget: Each person has a different budget for groceries.

Time: Some clients come to me with lots of time for meal prep and planning. Others need to streamline the time they spend in the kitchen.

You get the picture.

There’s simply no way I’d be able to help everyone make incremental improvements in their eating if I were using a “one-size fits all” approach.

However; there is a lot of evidence that supports eating more whole, minimally processed, nutrient-rich foods. And that may be one of the most important nutrition interventions of all, regardless of the protein, carb, and fat breakdowns.

The foods that define a healthy diet include fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, legumes, healthy fats and lean protein and minimal amounts of refined carbs/starchy foods, sugar and red meat, especially keeping processed red meat intake low.

How this can help you choose the absolute best diet for you.

These foods can help control appetite and lead to improved health.

There is no need to count calories. Focusing on choosing healthier foods means that you incorporate more nutrient dense foods in your diet. These are the foods that naturally keep you fill longer with less calories.

There’s no such thing as one-size-fits all, even when choosing a healthy diet.

That’s why I’m happy to help people find the best diet for them- without having to “go on” a diet.

1. Focus on healthy eating patterns
Following a healthy eating pattern—when done with attention and a little coaching—help control appetite, improve food quality and raise nutritional awareness.

2. Low fat or low carb?
This is where we get to tailor a sustainable eating patter for you. Each has benefits, It’s about figuring which is best for you.

3. Focus on habits
Habit-based coaching is better than diet-based coaching. Long-term lifestyle and nutrition habits win over diet plans and rules. Always.

I work with clients who are done with feeling defeated after following the latest diet. They are ready to build habits, incrementally and sustainably over time.

So, the best diet to follow actually is…
… the one that’s best for you.

Let me listen to your needs. What you want to accomplish. How you live. What’s really important to you. Then let me help you create the right dietary approach for you; one that’s specific to your goals and your lifestyle.

Because that’s what coaching really is.

Diet gurus are in this game to get attention. That’s why they try to force people into following strict and largely unnecessary nutrition rules—where foods are “good” and “bad” and allowing you to “cheat” on your diet.

Sure, it sells books. But we all know how things turn out when real people try to follow these rules in real life.

That’s why I prefer providing coaching over meal plans.

I help clients find the best diet for them. One that they can follow on their worst day — not just their best. One that takes into account their lifestyle.

I believe it’s the only sane and rational approach.

It also happens to be the only approach that actually works in the long run.
